What is an Initial Assessment?
Initial assessments are a chance for you to meet and discuss the current difficulties you’re facing in whatever area that may be, which will help us determine the best next steps of your journey with one of our Consultant Psychiatrists.
Below is a quick synopsis of what an initial assessment/ appointment will include for each of the services we offer.

Adult General Conditions
- One and half hour appointment with a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
- This appointment can explore mood issues such as low mood, very variable mood, elated mood, anxiety symptoms such as generalised anxiety, panic attacks, phobias or obsessional thinking or compulsive behaviours, harmful use of alcohol or other mind altering substances, sleep issues such as insomnia or sleep timing issues, cognitive issues and personality difficulties leading to difficulties at work or in a domestic setting
- Comprehensive review of your current and historic difficulties
- Feedback and treatment recommendations are discussed with you, and will often be initiated during your initial assessment
- Internal referral for further guidance on a range of psychological treatment options that are likely to be helpful - provided on a complimentary basis, with signposting to an appropriate specialist internally or extarnally as guided by you
- Full written report provided
Child and Adolescent ADHD
- Two hour assessment with a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
- Structured questionnaires completed by the school and parents
- An opportunity for you and your child to discuss your child’s history and current difficulties with a comprehensive assessment of symptoms suggestive of a diagnosis of ADHD, as well as a general assessment to screen for other condisitons
- 25 minute follow up appointment with the same Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide feedback and discuss treatment options and next steps included in the price of the assessment
- Feedback on diagnosis and recommendations provided to help you decide on the best treatment plan for your child, and any further assessments required
- Treatment can often be initiated within the feedback appointment
- Full written report provided
Adult ADHD
- Two hour assessment with a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
- A comprehensive review of you current and historic difficulties generally and as they pertain to a possible diagnosis of ADHD
- Feedback on diagnosis and recommendations are discussed with you and treatment will often be initiated as part of the initial assessment appointment
- Internal referral for further guidance on a range of psychological treatment options that are likely to be helpful - provided on a complimentary basis with subsequant signposting to an external specilaist or a referral made internally to our own in house psychology department guided by you
- Full written report provided
Child and Adolescent General Conditions
- One and half hour appointment with a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
- An opportunity to discuss your child’s life experiences and current difficulties and comprehensive assessment of these
- Feedback and treatment recommendations are discussed with you and treatment can often be discussed and initiated during your initial assessment
- Recomendations made about any other more specific assessments that may be indicated, and discussion about appropriate psychological talking therapies where appropriate, including individual and family therapy
- Full written report provided
Adult Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Two hour appointment with a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
- Comprehensive review of your current and historic difficulties using a structured interview and with a history taken from those who know you well with your consent
- Feedback on diagnosis and recommendations are discussed with you and a treatment plan where relevent can often be initiated as part of the initial assessment
- Referral internally or signposting to relevent psychological talking therapy specialist
- Full written report provided
Child and Adolescent Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- A 55 minute initial meeting with a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to establish if a full ASD assessment if required
- in some instances, immediate feedback that ASD has been ruled out, otherwise Face-to-Face, ADOS and ADI-R assessment take place
- Feedback appointment with Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist where the diagnosis is discussed and treatment options outlined with a full assessment report provided
Adult Talking Therapy
- An initial 30 minute assessment appointment with a Psychologist or Therapist
- An opportunity to discuss your history and current concerns
- Feedback and recommendations for further psychological treatment such as: CBT, EMDR, Psychotherapy or Couple/Family therapy, as well as a number of psychological treatment modalities

Child and Adolescent Talking Therapy
- An Initial 30 minute appointment with a Child and Adolescent Psychologist or Therapist
- An opportunity to discuss your child’s history and current concerns
- Feedback and recommendations for further psychological treatment such as: CBT, Family Therapy, EMDR or Individual Psychotherapy
