“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.” – Maria Montessori
Childhood is often regarded as a happy and care-free time. However, it is not uncommon for young children and adolescents to struggle emotionally and psychologically. As a parent or caring family member, it is natural to want the absolute best for one’s child and at Psymplicity Healthcare we understand how incredibly difficult it is to watch one’s child suffer or struggle. As a parent or carer, we can be particularly worried or frustrated when we don’t fully understand our child’s problem or are faced with other professionals who cannot provide us with the answers we need. It is particularly frustrating if we are faced with a long waiting list or confusing diagnoses.
Psymplicity Healthcare is here to provide the answers and reassurance you need. We are a safe pair of hands when you and your child are struggling. We are mindful that childhood can be a vulnerable time when challenging experiences can leave their imprint. The good news is that with the right expert and clinically proven interventions, difficulties do not always need to leave a negative and lasting impact. Intervening in a timely and expert way means difficulties experienced can become an opportunity for a child or young person to grow and develop. At Psymplicity Healthcare we have hand-picked our practitioners because they are leaders in their field, specifically trained to support children, young people and their families through challenging times to realise their full potential and talents.
We provide a comprehensive service to meet all the needs of your child from point of first contact to treatment. This includes assessment, diagnosis, a detailed report, referral to appropriate experts if necessary, and evidence based treatments including individual and family therapy, cognitive behaviourial therapy and, if needed, medication. We provide care and support for other family members offering family therapy and parenting support.
Our Psychiatric Reports can help aid an application for, or existing, Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) in order to ensure your child receives the support they are entitled to.
We have the expertise to work with many different conditions from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), behavioural issues, depression, anxiety, self-harm, learning difficulties and many others.
Our service is run by highly skilled psychiatrists across all disciplines including child and adolescent psychiatrists with extensive experience and expertise, who have worked at senior levels in the NHS and beyond. Working alongside them are a multi-disciplinary team including child and adolescent psychologists, family therapists, and occupational therapists, providing a complete pathway towards emotional and psychological well-being of your child.
“Children love and want to be loved and they very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure. Do not mistake a child for his symptom.” -Erik Erikson
Our ethos at Psymplicity Healthcare is child-centered and all our practitioners have a warm, caring and child-friendly manner. At the initial assessment, we truly listen and ask the right questions to understand not only your child but their environment including their school, family, social and cultural context. This holistic approach to assessment may include a school or home visit if it is felt appropriate, to get as full a picture as possible before making a diagnosis.
As part of our collaborative approach to diagnosing we consider the perspective of the child or adolescent as well as parents, social workers, other family members and healthcare professionals. These views contribute to the shaping of the treatment plan. This may include talking therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy especially tailored to young people, family therapy or teaching parenting skills. We use only treatments that are clinically proven to be highly effective. Our child and adolescent psychiatrists are also able to prescribe medication when appropriate. Throughout the course of your child’s treatment, we are available to respond to any concerns and questions and provide follow-up consultations. If you need to speak to a member of our clinical team in between follow-ups, then they are just a phone call away.
If you would like to find out more about the child and adolescent services we provide then feel free to pick up the phone and one of our friendly admin team can arrange a short free telephone consultation with a professional, to see how we can help. We look forward to meeting you.
