What is depression?
Depression is a mood disorder characterised by feelings of sadness, low energy and a lack of interest, among other symptoms. It’s a condition that alters the way you think, feel and behave, and it often sits beneath the surface, unapparent to those around you. Individuals who suffer from depression can experience a range of emotional and physical symptoms, many of which are debilitating and impact their relationships, career and overall health. Having supported and treated patients with different types of depression and at various stages of depression, our experts at Psymplicity are not only highly qualified, but deeply experienced, too.
Left undiagnosed or untreated, depression will continue to hinder your life, making you feel helpless and as if the sadness and other symptoms you experience are an inevitable part of your life now. That’s not the case and you are not alone — we are here to help.
At Psymplicity, we adopt a client-focused approach, putting your mental wellbeing above all else to provide you with the personalised care and attention you need. Following a comprehensive assessment of your unique needs and circumstances, we will develop a bespoke treatment plan that will enable you to manage the condition effectively. Depression can be a challenging condition to live with, but we understand, and can help you overcome its restrictive impact on your life.
What are the symptoms of depression?
Depression can develop for a range of biological, environmental and circumstantial reasons — examples include the loss of a loved one or receiving bad news, such as an illness. The most common causes of depression are family history, childhood trauma, underlying medical conditions, or a chemical imbalance in the brain. Below are some of the most common emotional and psychical depression symptoms that we see at Psymplicity:

Emotional symptoms of depression include:
- Feeling guilty for no reason
- Feeling worthless
- Being easily prone to crying without any direct trigger
- Feeling hopeless
- Being easily irritable
- Loss of emotions, feeling numb or hopeless
- Loss of interest in activities that you enjoyed in the past
- Suicidal feelings or thoughts about death
Physical symptoms of depression include:
- Constant tiredness and lethargy
- Body pain and aches that do not appear to get better with treatment or medicine
- Inability to focus on a task at hand
- Lack of sex drive
- A drastic change in appetite: you could be eating a lot less or a lot more than usual
- A significant change in your sleeping patterns, such as sleeping a lot or being unable to sleep
- Gaining or losing weight
- Digestion problems
- Feeling heavy, causing you to move, talk or react slowly
These are just some of the most common depression symptoms, and you may experience many or very few. Depression presents differently in everybody, and of course you don’t need to have experienced every symptom to be suffering from the condition. It might be that you wake up every morning and the thought of getting out of your bed and starting your day is unbearable; if these feelings are affecting your life, there is a better way, and support is available.
At Psymplicity Healthcare, we understand, and we’re here to help. Following a thorough assessment of your symptoms, including their frequency and duration, as well as your medical history, we can diagnose depression and help you. We can work alongside you to relieve you of the baggage of living with your symptoms and all the ways they affect your career, relationships and ability to live a happy, fulfilling life.
Book an appointment to see how we can help you banish sadness, low energy, self-loathing and other depression symptoms. During your consultation, you’ll receive the diagnosis you’ve been waiting for, along with a bespoke plan of treatment for depression.

The Psymplicity approach to treatment for depression
At Psymplicity Healthcare, we provide an integrated approach to treatment for depression. Using a variety of therapy and counselling options after your initial assessment and diagnosis, we’ll tailor a treatment plan to suit your needs. A depression therapist will spend the initial session finding out as much about you, your mood, contributing factors and background as possible to develop a thorough understanding of your situation.
Right now, you may feel hopeless and maybe even ashamed of the way you feel, but it’s crucial to know that you are not alone and our specialists can provide the advice, guidance and support you need to feel good about yourself again. Treatment shouldn’t be yet another distraction or inconvenience, which is why we treat every patient with minimal disruption to their everyday life, but much like many other conditions, the earlier you seek treatment, the better. We will deliver therapy at a pace that suits you and celebrate your victories along the way, however small they may feel, and encourage you to acknowledge the courage, strength and tenacity it takes to undertake therapy when feeling low.
We typically treat depression with a combination of the following:
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Psychotherapy
- Private Counselling
- Antidepressant medication
This is your fight, but we will always be in your corner, and you can rest assured we have ample experience treating patients with similar concerns to you.
We understand how significantly depressive symptoms can impact your quality of life, and we’ll utilise every resource to help you get back on track. Whether you’re worried that a loved one has depression or you’d like our experts to assess you, we’re here to offer our advice, guidance and bespoke treatment.
Your private depression treatment plan
Following our in-depth assessment and subsequent depression diagnosis, you’ll benefit from a personalised and balanced treatment approach that prioritises managing your symptoms and reducing the impact of the condition on your life. Our specialists can provide the advice, guidance and support you need to feel good about yourself again.
Step One
To ensure a perfectly tailored treatment plan, we begin with a professional depression diagnosis and produce a personalised assessment report, which you’re welcome to share with your GP.
Step Two
Our experts will evaluate your needs and create a bespoke treatment plan that suits you. We have a deep-rooted understanding of the specific benefits associated with each treatment and can talk you through these during your appointment.
Step Three
Depression patients need continued care and support, which is why we recommend follow-up appointments to monitor progress, discuss any concerns and review medication to help you on your path to recovery.
