Doctor Amber Sadiq's approach
Dr Amber is a Consultant Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist. She uses a compassionate and integrated approach which combines biological, psychological and social perspectives with evidence based care.
She works closely with her multidisciplinary colleagues and liaises with other professionals, including school counsellors and paediatricians, whenever possible.
Dr Amber will complete a comprehensive assessment and formulation, followed by a detailed treatment plan. She has expertise working with a wide range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD/ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, eating disorders, gender identity and relationship problems. Dr Amber’s prescribed treatment approach includes a wide range of evidence based psychotherapeutic interventions including parenting strategies (Webster Stratton), cognitive behavioural therapy approaches, mentalization based therapy, positive behavioural support and family systems approaches. Working collaboratively with young people and their families, she will prescribe medication when clinically indicated, and address other factors including sleep, nutrition and exercise. As a systemically trained Psychiatrist, she is passionate about working together with the young person, family (e.g. parents) and other important key people (e.g. teachers), to help improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
Dr Amber is on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and has a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Psychotherapy. She initially qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Glasgow in 2003, and as a psychiatrist in 2007. Dr Amber trained on the Royal Free Hospital Psychiatry rotation in London, followed by the world renowned Tavistock Centre. She has experience of inpatient, outpatient, hospital pediatric, learning disability, neurodevelopmental, eating disorder and community clinic settings, and has worked internationally, setting up services, seeing patients from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds.
Dr Amber has presented at local meetings and international conferences, and has been playing an active role in mental health awareness and education, with the aim of reducing stigma and improving access to mental health support. She enjoys writing, training and teaching, and has previously been awarded for her undergraduate teaching skills at University College London (UCL). Apart from her work in the UK, she has been involved in international mental health initiatives and integrative mental health.
