Louis Dennington's approach

As a Clinical Psychologist, I work integratively with tools from different therapies. I make particular use of psychodynamic psychotherapy and CBT.

My role is to make a safe and respectful place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. We’ll work to reach a shared understanding of your difficulties and think together about the way forwards.

I can provide short-term therapies to work on discrete goals. For example, you may be trying to overcome an anxiety, phobia or obsessional problem. You may be coping with the effects of a depression, or adjusting to changes in your circumstances.

I can also provide longer-term therapies, if more time is needed to think through the origins of your difficulties, and to explore patterns in relationships or buried feelings.

I have experience of providing therapy for trauma. This might be for a difficulty like PTSD where there are nightmares or flashbacks. The therapy could focus on processing and thinking about the distress left behind by an event or series of events, like an accident, an assault or experience of abuse.

It’s important that we can speak about areas of difference. Therapy should be a space where you can talk about culture, race, sexuality or other parts of your identity when you need to, as well as experiences of discrimination.
