Simon Thompson's approach

Following a career in the military, and having worked as a civilian pilot and commercial diver, Simon Thompson graduated from St George’s Medical School in 2010. Thereafter, he trained in Psychiatry at South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust and at Broadmoor Hospital. He was then employed as a locum Consultant in the NHS and Consultant in the private/charity sectors.

Dr Thompson’s practice reflects a balanced portfolio career. He is known to be an exceptionally empathic and straight-speaking doctor, with a sound grasp of current psychotherapeutic and psychiatric treatment modalities.

He is passionate about patients and their recovery and wellbeing, and provides well-considered treatment plans and advice to individuals and families that work within the context of an individual’s career, relationships and home life.

His experience in general adult psychiatry is wide ranging and includes: mood disorders, forensics, sports psychiatry, addictions, adult ADHD and ASD, and older age psychiatry.

Over recent years, Dr Thompson has developed a leading role in the treatment of psychological trauma and PTSD, especially with military veterans and emergency service personnel, and in the difficult area of post-sexual assault.

Dr Thompson maintains a permanent position as a Psychiatrist for Combat Stress, the leading UK military veterans charity, and as an advisor and clinician to British and American government agencies.

He is the co-founder and current Medical Director of the charity PentUp, which uses the sport of Modern Pentathlon to support ex-military veterans recovering from PTSD.

Dr Thompson lives with his partner and two daughters in Surrey.
