Dr. Nayeema Shakur qualified in Medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2007. She completed a period of core and higher training in Psychiatry through Health Education England’s Northeast training schemes. She became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2018.
Dr Shakur completed postgraduate certificate in Medical Education in 2022 from University of York and Hull. Subsequently, she obtained Certificate of Completion in Training in General Adult Psychiatry in 2023 alongside endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry reflecting her comprehensive approach to mental health care. Dr Shakur is Section 12 approved under the Mental health Act of 1983 and has Approved Clinician Status.
Dr Shakur was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in 2023. She provided clinical service to Community Mental health team and Early Intervention in Psychosis Team. She now works in private healthcare.
Dr Shakur has gathered vast clinical experience in Psychiatry by managing common and complex psychiatric conditions in adults like Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, Psychotic illnesses etc.
She offers comprehensive assessments and treatments for Adult ADHD and ASD.
Dr Shakur uses medication as an adjunct to various psychotherapeutic models including cognitive behaviour therapy, family therapy and psychodynamic principles in her day-to-day clinical practice.

Recently I decided as recommended by a friend to have a ADHD assessment. Much to my amazement I was diagnosed with ADHD. My whole life suddenly felt very normal for the first time in what felt like forever.

The psychiatrist I spoke to made me feel seen and heard for the first time in my life. I always felt like an oddball when explaining my symptoms to a g.p. Yet, today I was made to feel understood. I cannot thank him enough for his help today. To realise it wasn’t all because I was a bad kid, it was because I have autism and a.d.h.d. Has made me feel compassion towards myself instead of shame.

The process was so straightforward and simple. I wish I had done this sooner. All the years of anxiety and feeling different, changing myself to fit with people. I could cry with relief. I've suspected for years but still doubted that an assessment/diagnosis would clarify things, more just say I needed to concentrate or pay attention. However, it explains everything and I feel freed and validated for the first time in my whole life.
