About the Adult Autism Assessment

Our adult autism assessments at Psymplicity provide a comprehensive evaluation to understand your symptoms, medical history, personal background, and family history. Conducted via video call, these assessments last 80-110 minutes and include pre-appointment forms to ensure a thorough analysis.

Following the adult autism assessment, you will receive a clinical letter detailing the findings and a tailored treatment plan. This may include behavioural tools, talking therapies, and, if necessary, medical treatment. For ongoing care, we also offer follow-up appointments to adjust your plan as needed.

If additional support is required, we provide online therapy, private psychology, and access to an experienced private psychiatrist for further guidance. For those seeking a broader evaluation, a private mental health assessment is also available.

If you’re managing overlapping conditions like ADHD, consider a private ADHD assessment alongside your autism diagnosis. Our goal is to provide clarity and personalised care, helping you navigate your adult autism diagnosis with confidence and support.

What is Adult Autism?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), commonly known as autism, is a group of neurodevelopmental conditions that impact a person’s social skills, communication abilities, and behaviour. While autism is often identified in childhood, its effects continue into adulthood, frequently influencing an individual’s ability to navigate social interactions, maintain employment, and live independently. Adults with autism face unique challenges and benefit greatly from tailored support to lead fulfilling lives.

That’s where we come in! If you or a loved one is showing symptoms of autism and you’re concerned about its impact on daily life, a comprehensive autism test can provide the clarity you need.

This approach helps alleviate symptoms and empowers you to manage your condition effectively.

Whether you’re seeking an adult autism test or a detailed autism diagnosis UK, our team is here to provide personalised care that improves your quality of life. Living with autism can be challenging, but we’re here to help you overcome its limitations and support your journey toward a brighter future.

What are the symptoms of autism?

Adult autism symptoms often manifest during early adulthood, sometimes becoming more noticeable when an individual is 18 years or older. The symptoms of autism in adults can vary significantly in both their characteristics and severity. The symptoms an adult might experience are unique to them, as is the level of impairment caused by the condition.

Main symptoms of autism spectrum disorder:

Communication/interaction:

Restrictive/repetitive behaviours:

These are just some of the most frequently experienced symptoms of ASD in adults. Adults with autism often face high levels of stress and anxiety, which can impact their ability to manage everyday tasks and maintain relationships. While stress and anxiety are common emotions, individuals with autism experience these feelings more intensely and frequently, often leading to challenges in social and professional settings.

Unfortunately, many adults go years without an autism diagnosis, often misunderstood or unfairly judged as struggling with behavioural or emotional issues. Without a proper diagnosis, these individuals may be left feeling unsupported and unable to access the tools they need to thrive.

At Psymplicity Healthcare, we understand these challenges and are here to help. Following a thorough private autism assessment, we consider the characteristics, frequency, and duration of your symptoms to provide a clear and accurate diagnosis. Our team of therapists and specialists will then work with you to manage your ASD symptoms, helping you improve your quality of life.

If you’re a parent concerned about your child’s development, we also offer a comprehensive Child Autism Assessment through our CAMHS team, ensuring support for every stage of life.

We’re not only here to listen and understand; we’re here to help you or your loved one navigate the challenges of autism and find the tools to succeed in education, work, and personal relationships.

At Psymplicity Healthcare, we adopt an integrated approach to adult autism treatment. We provide gold-standard clinician-led adult autism assessments for adults. ASD is a lifelong condition, and while early intervention is beneficial, adults can also see significant improvements in symptoms with the right treatment plan. Our private autism assessment typically takes 4-5 hours, either in a single session or split over three, and includes an initial diagnosis, assessment, testing, and a comprehensive medical report with recommended treatment.

The autism assessment begins with a behavioural review. During this, we select activities tailored to the individual based on their symptoms, challenges, and goals. Alongside a supporting clinician, we observe interactions and score responses, using formal testing methods to ascertain or rule out behavioural, developmental, emotional, and attention deficit disorders.

Secondly, we invite you to an information-gathering session to best understand and diagnose your condition. This involves reviewing available records, observations, and conducting interviews. Following this session, we create a detailed report of the results, including diagnoses and recommendations.

The most effective treatment for adults may involve one or more therapies, medical treatment, and workshops. Online therapy, CBT therapy, or psychotherapy can address symptoms like anxiety, irritability, or social challenges. In some cases, relationship counselling or family therapy may be beneficial for improving communication and strengthening relationships.

While some adults can be successfully treated without medical intervention, medical treatment can relieve symptoms such as irritability, aggression, hyperactivity, and anxiety. However, we firmly believe that the solution is never to rely on medical treatment alone. Before putting together your bespoke, holistic treatment plan, we will consider your unique needs, preferences, and any additional factors such as allergies or co-existing conditions. If there are overlapping concerns, we can also explore support for conditions like eating disorders, anxiety, or OCD using tools like an OCD Test.

If you’re seeking additional support for grief or emotional challenges, bereavement counselling or general private counselling is available. Our holistic approach ensures every client receives the right care for their needs, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life.
